If you have not been to Tremonton, Utah’s ‘Candy Bomber’ mural honoring Col. Gail Halvorsen, it is worth the visit. The 76-ft.-long mural features a large chocolate bar with the outstretched hands of West Berlin children below, waiting to catch the chocolate Col. Halvorsen airdropped them. To the left is barbed wire and a military plane, showing what became an international effort to bring candy—and hope and fun—to children in a blockaded city that was under Soviet control.
